Who we are

Keeled Scales was co-founded by two friends and musicians in Austin, Texas. We put out our first release in June 2014.

Seth Whaland already had the name in mind and drew the logo. He plays bass in the bands Tres Oui and Literature and co-ran Natrix Natrix Records from 2004-2009, which was a cassette and vinyl label that also hosted legendary house shows in Austin (Woods, Deer Tick, and Real Estate, to name a few). He owns and runs the Austin moving company MASH Movers that employs several Austin musicians and artists.

Tony Presley has played music as Real Live Tigers since 2004, playing over a thousand shows in the US, Canada, and the UK. He's worked in most aspects of the music industry: booking and promoting local shows, booking national tours, press outreach, tour-managing and artist management. He currently manages the label.

In 2020 Bri Aab joined the label to help with digital distribution, social media, and project management.

In 2021 Abby Solomon joined the label as our radio coordinator.

Demo submission policy

We aren’t able to listen to every submission, but anyone is welcome to send submissions to us via email: ks at A private streaming link is preferred. Feel free to follow up, but don’t take it personally if we don’t respond.

We’re a small label trying to put out as much music as we can. We started by putting out our own music and our friends’ bands. Don’t be afraid to self-release your music or start your own label.

We’re happy to share our experience in how we started and can make ourselves available for free workshops and consultations, with preference given to BIPOC and LGBTQ artists. Please don’t hesitate to reach out!

We’re currently not accepting inquires about internships for the spring of 2021. If you’re interested in interning with us in the summer or fall of 2021, either locally or remotely, feel free to email: ks at We can arrange for college credit.

We’ve been really fortunate to have a lot of help along the way. We’ve had over a dozen interns, from the University of Texas, St. Edward’s University, and from several local Austin bands.

We literally couldn’t do this without the help of our friends and community.

If you’re interested in licensing music from any of the artists on our label, feel free to reach out: info at
